Prehistoric and Protostoric Archaeology

RESEARCH DESCRIPTION

The synergy between Artificial Intelligence and Archaeology is expanding our understanding of ancient civilizations, thanks to innovative visual identification systems, refined dating techniques, machine learning, complex data analysis, and advanced digital reconstruction. In particular, the Prehistoric and Protostoric Archaeology project focuses on:

  • Reconstruction and clustering of ceramic shapes based on drawings of the artifact profiles (raster images); creation of homogeneous groups according to profile and size (processing an archaeological ceramic typology); generation of tables displaying the series of forms in relation to chronology.
  • Development of simulations of complex phenomena in prehistory, such as population dynamics between the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age (Agent-Based Modelling); creation of models capable of simulating medium- and long-term historical processes to be applied to key periods in the regional prehistory.
