AR/VR and Cold War

RESEARCH DESCRIPTION

The convergence of technology and history opens new opportunities for learning, research, and the preservation of historical heritage. In particular, the project AR/VR and the Cold War focuses on the fortifications built along the eastern border of Friuli Venezia Giulia during the Cold War, a unique heritage of international significance. After the decommissioning of the bunkers, now considered inaccessible, advanced computational technologies allow virtual exploration, enabling the visualization of architectural details and a deeper understanding of their historical context. The fortifications can also be networked with other military structures and historical sites from the First and Second World Wars in the region, creating an integrated cultural route.

Technological Tools and Methods

  • Modeling and 3D reconstruction of bunkers and military structures
  • Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for immersive exploration
  • Processing of historical and cartographic data for the contextualization of sites.
  • Integration with other resources of the regional historical and cultural heritage
  • Experimentation with digital tools for touristic and cultural enhancement

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROJECT

  • Creazione di modelli digitali e ricostruzioni 3D dei bunker
  • Analysis and digitization of historical data, documents, and maps
  • Development of AR/VR applications for the public engagement of sites.
  • Collaboration on interdisciplinary studies of history, architecture, and technology
